 Over the past 28 years, this hillside garden at the former home of Governor Gaylord Nelson has been thoughtfully transformed into a vibrant landscape. Bordering the Crestwood woods, the property takes full advantage of its natural setting while offering beautiful views from the home and patio.

 A rock wall with stone steps was added to make the sloping backyard more accessible for gardening while drawing visitors' eyes through the landscape. The backyard features primarily perennial plantings, while the front garden showcases colorful annuals that provide season-long interest. Sally’s extensive experience as project leader for the City-County Gardens in downtown Madison for 28 years is reflected in the skillful use of annuals throughout the garden.

 The garden's elevated setting creates an inviting space for both gardening and entertaining, demonstrating how thoughtful design can transform a hillside landscape into a beautiful and functional garden.
