Olbrich Butterfly Action Day

  • Olbrich Botanical Gardens 3330 Atwood Avenue Madison, WI, 53704 United States (map)

Butterfly Action Day is a free public event that typically attracts 700–1,000 visitors interested in butterflies, pollinators, native plants, and conservation. Stop by the MAMGA table to learn about our conservation efforts, including signature projects, native plantings at the Teaching Garden, and grant-funded pollinator garden initiatives.

Visitors can explore our educational display and learn how native plants support butterflies and moths throughout their life cycles. We will also feature a demonstration of the "Plant a Yard for a Yard" kit, which encourages gardeners to convert a small section of lawn into habitat for pollinators.

Families and children are invited to take part in an interactive spinning-wheel activity that highlights the important relationship between native larval host plants and the butterflies and moths that depend on them. Participants can spin the wheel to match a native host plant with its caterpillar and learn which Wisconsin butterfly or moth it will become. Children will receive a sticker featuring one of these beautiful pollinators to take home.
